Regarding "School Board OKs Speaker's Hiring" (Metro, Dec. 19):
The Hillsborough County School Board will spend $25,000 for an etiquette consultant to speak about manners to a small number of male students at two schools. This sum, I understand, will be in addition to more than $40,000 this particular consultant has previously received from the school board budget for like services.
After the "wellness consultant" hiring that was criticized a few weeks ago, I would have thought the employment of another consultant would have been more closely scrutinized and, hopefully, dispensed with by the school board.
Even though this consultant is alleged to be a "phenomenal" speaker, wouldn't education funds be better spent on an extra teacher?
Of course, we could just ask parents to teach their children better manners and avoid the expense altogether.
