TALLAHASSEE - Quianna Chaney scored 18 of her career-high 27 points in the first half, and the No. 11 LSU women beat short-handed Florida State 73-61 Thursday night.

Chaney scored the game's first eight points, and LSU's first 14. She made her first four 3-point attempts to help the Tigers take a 27-11 lead.

Chaney finished 5-for-9 from 3-point range and 10-for-17 from the field overall. The Tigers shot 54 percent and held the Seminoles to just 36 percent shooting.

LSU scored 25 points off Florida State's 16 turnovers and never trailed.

GEORGE WASHINGTON 68, AUBURN 66: Lisa Steele made a 3-pointer with 1.1 seconds remaining to clinch a victory for No. 20 George Washington over No. 18 Auburn.

The winning basket was Steele's only shot in just five minutes of play for the Colonels as they handed the Tigers their second straight loss - the first back-to-back losses for Auburn this season.

Jo-Sarah Lawrence led the Colonels with 18 points while Kimberly Beck had 16 points and seven assists.

CONNECTICUT 88, VILLANOVA 38: Tina Charles had 19 points and 11 rebounds and Mel Thomas added 16 points, leading top-ranked Connecticut to a victory in the Big East opener for both teams.

Connecticut cruised to its 25th consecutive regular-season victory and its 206th straight win against unranked opponents. The Huskies have beaten 10 teams by at least 30 points this season.

MARYLAND 84, WAKE FOREST 49: Crystal Langhorne had 15 points and 10 rebounds, leading No. 5 Maryland over Wake Forest.
Laura Harper and Kristi Toliver also had 15 points each and Marah Strickland added 10 for the Terrapins, who shot better than 51 percent in winning their seventh straight game.

DUKE 92, NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL 49: Chante Black did not miss a shot in scoring 17 points, and No. 12 Duke rolled.

Black went 7-for-7 from the field and 3-for-3 at the line as Duke (11-3) won its sixth straight overall and its 22nd in a row at home.

Duke's Wanisha Smith had 14 points and seven assists, while Joy Cheek, Abby Waner and reserve Karima Christmas each added 10 points.

OHIO STATE 66, MICHIGAN 42: Freshman center Jantel Lavender scored 14 points and had a game-high 12 rebounds to lead No. 21 Ohio State.

The Buckeyes rebounded from Sunday's loss at Michigan State by going on a 16-5 run to open the second half, pushing their lead over the Wolverines to 29 points with 11 minutes remaining.

TEXAS A&M 84, STEPHEN F. AUSTIN 53: Morenike Atunrase scored 22 points in her best game since returning from an injury last month to help No. 13 Texas A&M.

Shooting 9-of-13 from the floor, Atunrase made as many shots as she did in her first four games since coming back Dec. 15 from surgery on her right tibia.

Men's Top 25

MEMPHIS 102, SIENA 58: Reserve Jeff Robinson scored 20 points and Chris Douglas-Roberts added 19, including 17 in the first half, to lead No. 2 Memphis.

Joey Dorsey hit all five of his shots, scored 12 points, grabbed 14 rebounds for Memphis.

MARQUETTE 96, PROVIDENCE 67: Dominic James scored 21 points and Lazar Hayward added 17 as No. 10 Marquette took advantage of shorthanded Providence.

Marquette won its seventh straight game because the Golden Eagles were too fast and too deep for Providence and suffocated the Friars' few offensive weapons.

VANDERBILT 76, RICE 58: Shan Foster had 24 points and five rebounds as No. 15 Vanderbilt remained undefeated.

The Commodores (14-0) forced a season-high 24 turnovers and showed they can win with more than their high-scoring offense, extending the best start in the program's 108-year history. Vanderbilt won their first 12 games in 2003-04 en route to the regional semifinals of the NCAA tournament.

DEPAUL 84, VILLANOVA 76: Draelon Burns scored 20 points and Karron Clarke added 14 as DePaul upset No. 17 Villanova.

Corey Fisher made a 3-pointer with 3.2 seconds left in the half for Villanova to make it 40-28 at halftime. Fisher led Villanova with 23 points

ARIZONA 76, OREGON ST.: Jordan Hill had 20 points and 14 rebounds as No. 21 Arizona pulled away in the teams' Pac-10 opener on Thursday night.

Nic Wise, starting in place of injured freshman point guard Jarryd Bayless, scored 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting. He had 12 points in the second half when the Wildcats rallied from a seven-point deficit.
