REDSKINS-SEAHAWKS
WHEN: 4:30 p.m.
WHERE: Qwest Field,
Seattle
TV/CREW: WFLA, Channel 8 (Tom Hammond, Cris Collinsworth, Bob Neumeier)
ABOUT THE REDSKINS: Washington was relegated to an NFC playoff afterthought a month ago, apparently out of the postseason chase at 5-7. That was before the memory of Sean Taylor's death provided fuel for a four-game winning streak that secured a wild-card spot. Coach Joe Gibbs takes a 17-6 postseason record into Seattle as the Redskins overcame a minus-5 turnover differential behind the flawless play of backup QB Todd Collins. RB Clinton Portis closed with a rush, and TE Chris Cooley is extremely dangerous in the red zone.
ABOUT THE SEAHAWKS: Seattle and Green Bay are the only NFC clubs with 7-1 records at home, and the Seahawks boast six Pro Bowl performers, including four on a very disruptive defense. The ground game remains erratic, but QB Matt Hasselbeck turned in a stellar season with 28 scoring passes. DE Patrick Kerney led the NFC with 14.5 sacks and CB Marcus Trufant registered a career-best seven interceptions. Josh Brown is a clutch kicker and the home crowd will provide plenty of energy.
KEY STAT: When 2005 league MVP Shaun Alexander carries more than 25 times, the Seahawks are 23-3.
KEY MATCHUP: Cooley, who led NFC tight ends with eight TD receptions, vs. veteran SS Deon Grant.
IRA KAUFMAN'S CALL: Seahawks, 28-20.
