Vols Continue Mastery Against Irish

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Angie Bjorklund matched a career-high with seven 3-pointers for 21 points and Candace Parker added 20 points to lead No. 3 Tennessee to an 87-63 victory against 14th-ranked Notre Dame on Saturday.

The Lady Vols (12-1) took control from the start, forcing the Irish out of their normally pressing defense by making their first four 3-pointers, three of them by Bjorklund. Tennessee used a 22-2 run midway through the first half to open a 30-10 lead and were in control throughout.

Tennessee improved to 19-0 all time against the Irish (12-2), who had their winning streak stopped at 10 games.

Nicky Anosike added 13 points for the Lady Vols.

NORTH CAROLINA 99, GEORGIA TECH 78: Rashanda McCants scored 19 points and Jessica Breland added 18 to help No. 4 North Carolina (14-1) beat Georgia Tech (13-2) in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams.

Jacqua Williams set an ACC record with 11 steals, but the Yellow Jackets failed take advantage of North Carolina's season-high 32 turnovers, making just 29 of 78 shots.

RUTGERS 58, ST. JOHN'S 50: Epiphanny Prince scored 15 points to lead No. 6 Rutgers (11-2) past St. John's (9-5) in the Big East opener for both teams.

DUKE 84, MIAMI 72: Powered by a career-high five three-pointers from senior Wanisha Smith, who along with Chante Black scored 16 points, No. 12 Duke (12-3) defeated Miami (7-9) in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams.

ARKANSAS 80, TEXAS TECH 57: Ayana Brereton scored 16 points, and No. 25 Arkansas beat Texas Tech (11-2) to improve to 15-0, the best start in team history.
