Wrestling For Good

On Saturday, Florida Championship Wrestling will visit Hernando High School, 700 Bell Ave. in Brooksville, with a bell time of 8 p.m. as part of the David Williams Celebrity Tribute to the Troops.

The proceeds will benefit the Hernando County Sheriff's Office Youth Education Services Foundation and Lea's Prayers & Postage Inc. The admission to the event is $10.

Florida Championship Wrestling is a developmental territory of World Wrestling Entertainment. Visit our Web site, www.fcwwrestling.com, for information about our shows.

The Florida Championship Wrestling roster includes third-generation stars Southern Heavyweight champion Ted DiBiase Jr., Nattie Neidhart, "Stampede Kid" T.J. Wilson, Billy Kidman, "The Professional" Mike Mondo, "The Natural" Nic Nemeth and "Carnival Freak" Sinn Bowdee, among others. And don't forget the gorgeous FCW divas, Victoria Crawford, Maryse and the Bella twins, Nicole and Bri.

The Hernando County Sheriff's Youth Education Services Foundation is a nonprofit organization formed to develop programs for our growing youth population. The programs teach them the importance of being good citizens and of making the right choices throughout their lives. These programs are taught in public and private schools by sheriff's office personnel.

Lea's Prayers & Postage is a nonprofit organization created by Dee Mills in memory of her son, Sgt. Lea Robert Mills, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps until he was killed in action on April 28, 2006. Lea's Prayers & Postage generates postage for the patriotic people in America who send packages to our service personnel.

Since May 2006, Lea's has paid more than $33,000 of postage. The only requirement for postage to be paid is a military overseas address inside a war zone. For information on the charity, contact Dee Mills via Lea's Prayers & Postage at P.O. Box 9000, Masaryktown, FL, 34604.

On Jan. 19, we will be at the USA Flea Market, 11721 U.S. 19 in Port Richey, for a 1 p.m. show. On Jan. 26, we will return to the Jewish Community Center, 9841 Scenic Drive in Port Richey, and we will begin our show at 8 p.m.

Skills Program Lauded

I would like to express my gratitude to the staff of the Vocational Rehabilitation program. We definitely need more funded programs like this in our county.

People who work minimum-wage-paying jobs can barely pay their rent and utilities, let alone afford to go to the doctor. Nor do they have the money to buy Christmas presents for their families. These people are some of the hardest-working people, with no hope of ever having a car or even owning their own homes.

I recently read an article in the Pasco section of the Tribune about a business that was successful for years but is going out of business soon. I had to laugh when the owner stated that he started out as a dishwasher and saved his money to open his business. I know from personal experience that someone somewhere had to have helped this man.

After working in restaurants for years, I was terminated for a chronic illness I received in 1995, although I was a loyal employee for two years. I was let go just before Christmas. I was told by the employer that they would help me any way they could. Well, it has been a month now, and none of them has offered to help me in the slightest. Now I am seeing some extremely rough times.

I intend to get through this trying time, and I know with help from the great people at Voc/Rehab I will get back on my feet soon. So I would like to say hats off to Deza Whalen and Bill Coleman of Voc/Rehab for making a very trying time for me a little brighter, with hope for the future.

Keep up the great work you're doing for me and the hundreds of hard-working individuals like me. God bless you.

Bring Back Decorum

Regarding the Pasco County Legislative Delegation meeting Dec. 6:

We all know legislators love to grandstand publicly. But at the expense of their hard-working constituents?

One speaker talked about Equal Rights Amendment bills said to be in the Florida Legislature. I didn't know anything about that, but Sen. Ronda Storms embarrassed the speaker and some of us in the audience when she "stormed" the speaker.

Unprovoked, Storms berated the woman, apparently for daring to speak of inequalities that Storms bragged she, as a woman, had never experienced. She went on at length about how she has risen to her position of power never encountering any sexism.

Storms went on to claim that the word "mankind" means "woman." Does anyone fall for that anymore? Worse, she said equality is meaningless, that the ERA is a waste of time, and she has better things to do!

From an elected official, these were monstrous words. I think her behavior toward that speaker was deplorable.

What can be done to bring decorum back to these delegation hearings?

Coming Together

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the hundreds of people who came to The Volunteer Way and helped make this Christmas season the best in 21 years.

Pasco County's business community and residents came together and had food drives and fundraisers for the less fortunate of Pasco. We have seen an outpouring of compassion that I have not seen in the past. Not only do we have more people applying for help, we have more people helping us to help others.

Thank you, Pasco County, for your help.
