CLEARWATER — The Cigarette Robber may have flamed out.
Pinellas County Sheriff's detectives arrested a transient today who they say asked for Marlboro cigarettes before robbing two stores.
Detectives arrested Robert Eugene Bowyer Jr., 43, at 9:30 a.m. at a Super 8 Motel, 22950 US 19 N., in connection with the robberies of two Walgreens pharmacies last month. The robberies occurred on Dec. 16 and Dec. 28, authorities said.

Pinellas County detectives charged Bowyer with two counts of unarmed robbery. Clearwater police charged him with armed robbery and robbery.
At 8:20 p.m. on Dec. 16, a man entered the Walgreens pharmacy at 2519 McMullen-Booth Road in Safety Harbor. He went to the counter and asked for a carton of Marlboro Reds and Newports.
As the cashier was about to charge him and open the register, the robber hinted he was armed and demanded cash, authorities said. No weapon was shown. He fled with cash and the cigarettes.
The second robbery was just before 6 p.m. on Dec. 28 at the Walgreens at 5 Patricia Ave. in Dunedin. The robber asked for a carton of Marlboro Red 100s. He followed the same pattern.
As he was about to be charged for the carton, the robber implied to the cashier that he had a weapon. The robber reached into the cash register and fled with money.
