TAMPA - The driver in a crash last week that killed a Port Richey woman and ejected a baby was jailed Tuesday.
Yorgan Lopez-Perez, 26, of Tampa, was charged with one count of vehicular homicide and two counts of reckless driving with serious injury.
Lopez-Perez told deputies he was driving about 80 mph or higher at 2:30 p.m. Jan. 3 as he approached the intersection of Sheldon Road and Fountain Avenue, Hillsborough County sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter said.
The posted speed is 45 mph. Data downloaded from his vehicle's computer showed a top speed of 91 mph just before the crash, Carter said.
"The actions of the defendant show a willful and wanton disregard for the safety of persons and property," she said.
Twenty-six-year-old Caressa C. Gordon was driving a 1997 Nissan west on Fountain Avenue and was about to turn south on Sheldon Road.
Lopez-Perez's 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt was headed north.
The Nissan was within the left lane at the intersection and crossed into the path of the Chevy. The impact caused an infant, Isaiah Casanova, to be ejected from the Nissan.
The child and his mother, Marjory Devlin, 19, were rushed to St. Joseph's Hospital with non life-threatening injuries, Carter said. Gordon was airlifted to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
