PLANT CITY - Plant City is known for its quaint streets paved with bricks.
A Lakeland man found himself under arrest Monday and charged with trying to steal more than 100 of them, Plant City police officers reported.
Steven Morrill, 45, was caught trying to haul away bricks that work crews had piled at West Tever and North Wheeler streets, officers said.
At about 11:20 p.m. Monday, Morrill was charged with grand theft and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, police said.
Police Sgt. Curtis Williams found Morrill and his 13-year-old son loading city bricks into a pickup truck, police said. Morrill wouldn't give a statement to the officer but was overheard saying he "should have asked for permission," police said.
Police said crews had been improving the road bed and planned to return the bricks to the road surface to complete the job.
Morrill, who works in Plant City, was held today at Orient Road Jail with bail set at $2,500, county records show.
