Maine, N.M., Salzburg on Saveur 100 List

NEW YORK (AP) -- Food from Maine, New Mexico, Salzburg and Montreal turned up on Saveur magazine's quirky list of 100 "favorite foods, restaurants, people, places and things."

This is the 10th annual list of 100 picks from Saveur, which describes itself as an "epicurean travel magazine."

Kudos went to New Mexico road food, including the San Felipe Pueblo Restaurant 20 miles north of Albuquerque off Interstate 25; the inexpensive Westernized Indian food served at Hare Krishna temple dining halls, called Govinda's; the light and elegant fare of restaurants in the Salzburg, Austria, area, including eateries like Obauer, Pfefferschiff and Purzelbaum; Cincinnati chili (a meaty topping served over spaghetti); the grocery sections of Britain's Marks & Spencer department stores; the chefs of Montreal, like Racha Bassoul of Bazaar Anise and Martin Picard of Au Pied de Cochon; and the culinary delights of Maine, from fiddlehead ferns and fresh seafood to classic diners like the A1 in Gardiner and high-end restaurants like Fore Street in Portland.

Saveur's list is randomly numbered, so the first item is no more highly ranked than the last.
