ST. PETERSBURG - A man drowned in front of his mother in a lake near Walter Fuller Park this afternoon, St. Petersburg Fire Rescue said.
The man, whose identity was not released, went into the water shortly after 4 p.m., Fire Rescue spokesman Rick Feinberg said in a statement.
His mother called emergency personnel at 4:08 p.m. They arrived five minutes later and found the man's body at the bottom of the lake at 4:27 p.m.
The man was taken to St. Petersburg General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A firefighter found the man's body using a pike pole. Two firefighters removed him from the lake. The man was in cardiac arrest, Feinberg said.
