A Plant City High School student is recovering from a hit-and-run that happened as he crossed a busy road to reach his bus this morning.
Joshua Cabbage, 17, was crossing Gallagher Road at 6:27 a.m. to reach his bus, which was stopped on northbound Gallagher Road at Todd Place with its stop sign extended and lights activated, Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Vida Morgan said.
A dark gray sedan traveling south on Gallagher Road did not stop for the bus and hit Cabbage, breaking his left leg in several places. The car kept going south and last was seen crossing Thonotosassa Road, deputies said.
Cabbage was taken to Tampa General Hospital.
The newer-model gray sedan may have a broken window and sideview mirror on the front right side, according to the sheriff's office.
