HORSE CENTS

Tribune handicapper Michael David picks today's races at Tampa Bay Downs:

RACE 1: (5) Gaelic Gold, best of a soft group; (7) Mistress Smurfette, chance for a share; (1) Ogerinthecourt, showed early speed in return from long layoff.

RACE 2: (2) Coping With Us, front-runner takes class drop; (8) Old Rules, can better last effort; (6) Levin Levon, quick invader.

RACE 3: (5) Stack Blues, finished second first time here; (10) Grand Canal, does best running late; (3) Gamble On Red, better than last.

RACE 4: (1) Affirmed Action, top grass contender; (5) Primogeniture, had race over, should move forward; (10) Mr. Rachin, definite possibility with these.

RACE 5: (1a) Essence of Time, usually in the money; (2) Point Perfect; shipper has talent; (7) Legal Call, must respect her speed.

RACE 6: (3) Time Well Wasted, makes Tampa debut at claiming level; (5) Chinanote, lone win at this track; (6) Last Shake, adding blinker could help.

RACE 7: (5) Load a Chronic, faced good ones at Churchill Downs; (1) British Blue, veteran runner usually in the hunt; (8) Minnamana, 12 of 15 in the money on the turf.

RACE 8: (3) Bikini Atoll, just failed in fast return from a layoff; (7) Miltos Express, goes turf to dirt and shortens up; (9) Itchy Toes, chased a run-a-way winner in latest.

RACE 9: (3) Seize, fresh start for hot barn; (8) Bye Bye Beylen, second best against a similar field; (7) Never Absent, won over course and distance.

RACE 10: (4) Secret Enquiry, close in last couple of chances; (9) Bold 'n Trashy, shorter distance might aid; (3) Dixie Queen, has lots of early speed.

COMMON CENTS (TODAY'S BEST BET): (3) Bikini Atoll in Race 8 - Returned from a seven-month layoff and put in a fine effort on the turf. Will be fitter for today's challenge, the one to beat.
