SARASOTA - There will be no circus here for GOP presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani.
Three days after announcing that Giuliani would speak to local Republicans on Jan. 25 at the Sailor Circus Arena, the Sarasota County Republican Party has changed venues, concerned the location easily could be lampooned.
Eric Robinson, Sarasota County GOP chairman, said although people in Southwest Florida understand Sarasota's connection to the circus, it could be misrepresented by the national media.
The Sailor Circus Arena is used for a youth program run by the Police Athletic League.
The $150-a-person Giuliani event will be held instead at the Ritz-Carlton Sarasota.
Giuliani's speech will occur four days before Florida's Jan. 29 primary election.
