HUDSON - Pasco County deputies Tuesday continued looking into the threat of a shooting at Hudson High School.
"We've been investigating this since last week," sheriff's spokesman Doug Tobin said, adding that the threat isn't considered credible.
A number of students received text messages last week stating a shooting would occur on the campus, he said. Specifics about the messages weren't released.
Classes have continued as usual, but more deputies have been on campus since the threat came in, Tobin said.
Because of rumors about the threat, attendance was lighter than normal Tuesday, the first day back from winter break, Principal David LaRoche said. Some parents signed their students out early during the course of the day.
LaRoche, however, said he was unaware of any text messages. He said it was his understanding the rumors started Thursday or during the weekend after an altercation at a restaurant and "maybe some things were said that people construed as a threat."
"This apparently was just a bunch of hearsay rumors that spread," LaRoche said.
Other than the lighter than usual attendance, Tuesday went smoothly, he said.
LaRoche said he planned to send an automated telephone message to parents and the staff thanking them for their cooperation during the day.
