WESLEY CHAPEL - The Pasco County Sheriff's Office is searching for two teens who robbed a carhop at the Sonic on Bruce B. Downs Boulevard on Sunday night.
The pair, ages 15 to 17, sat down at one of the restaurant's outdoor tables about 10 p.m. and ordered food, according to a sheriff's office report. When the carhop delivered the order to them, one teen snatched a billfold from the waiter's apron pocket, the report states.
Both teens ran off toward a nearby Publix. The carhop, a teenager wearing roller skates for his shift at the drive-in, chased them across the parking lot, deputies said, but couldn't catch them.
Both boys are described as black with short hair. One is about 5-foot-9 and wore a white T-shirt, gold chain and a gray hooded sweatshirt. The other is about 5-foot-10, has a slender build and wore a black hooded shirt with white shoes.
Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's tip line at 1-800-706-2488.
Sunday's strong-arm robbery was similar to one that occurred Dec. 9 at the Sonic on County Road 581 in Wesley Chapel. In that case, a teenager robbed a female carhop, also a teenager, and fled on a bicycle with an undisclosed amount of money.
Shortly after, a Florida Highway Patrol trooper arrested Jamal L. Munson, 16, of 2002 Shellbourne Court in Wesley Chapel after a brief struggle. About $130 was recovered.
He was later charged him with felony strong-arm robbery.
