TAMPA - Detectives are searching for a man they say has robbed three convenience stores since Monday, each time by reaching into the register after asking the clerk for change.
Tampa police say the bandit first struck about 9:50 p.m. Monday at King Grocery, 723 W. Columbus Drive, where he jumped over the counter to access the register. The clerk punched him on the back of the head and hit the alarm button, police said.
The robber struck again at 11:30 p.m. Monday at a 7-Eleven at 2320 W. Waters Ave. and again about 9 p.m. Tuesday at a CVS pharmacy at 625 W. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
Police described the bandit as a black man in his early 40s, about 6 feet tall and 240 pounds. He has a receding hairline or shaved head and a beard. He was driving a small gold or beige vehicle, possibly a Hyundai Elantra.
