The Pasco County Library System is inviting young people to sign up for the 11th annual Battle of the Bands XI: Rockus Maximus.
Intended for groups with a minimum of three members, most of whom should be less than 20 years old, the competition is scheduled for 6 p.m. March 28, at Crews Lake Park in Shady Hills.
"We're proud to say we had the original Battle of the Bands in Pasco, and it keeps growing each year," said Linda Bragg, public relations specialist of the Pasco County Library System.
"Whether it's punk, rap, rock, or any other musical style, we're open to all musical genres," Bragg said.
Each of the eight qualifying bands will have 25 minutes to perform, with at least two original songs in the set. Band members must reside mostly in Pasco County; bands will be judged on stage presence, vocals, songwriting, and general musicianship.
The signup deadline for Battle of the Bands XI: Rockus Maximus is Saturday.
Those who wish to sign up should visit the teen page or the teen blog of the Pasco County Library System Web site, pascolibraries.org, or MySpace.com/pascolibraries for all the details.
In addition to live performances, the 11th annual competition will boast a new facet this year.
In an Internet-based competition, this year's bands will compete for the best online presence.
"We're going to post eight weekly episodes on MySpace TV so that you can join us and watch each of the bands and then vote for your favorite band each week," a news release stated.
