TAMPA - TAMPA - A Davenport man was killed Friday afternoon in Polk County when he turned his car onto U.S. 27 and was hit by a southbound vehicle, authorities said.
Vincent Magistro, 81, of 335 Cabre Lane, Davenport, died at the scene, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said.
Four people in the Chrysler PT Cruiser that hit Magistro's Honda Civic were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, said Polk sheriff's spokeswoman Carrie Rodgers. The occupants of the PT Cruiser, whose names were not immediately available, were vacationing from Virginia, Rodgers said.
Magistro was traveling east on Central Florida Grove Road about 5:10 p.m. Friday when he made the turn onto U.S. 27 and violated the right of way of the southbound PT Cruiser, Rodgers said.
Both lanes of U.S. 27 were closed for nearly two hours while authorities worked to clear wreckage from the scene, the sheriff's office said.
