Angry Edwards Would Divide Nation

John Edwards bought himself a Senate seat with the proceeds of a $25 million lawsuit and has been running for president ever since.

The one-term senator from North Carolina is focused on a domestic agenda, probably because he lacks foreign policy experience. He's branded himself the anti-establishment candidate and made corporate greed a hallmark of his campaign.

While some companies do, indeed, hold too much sway in Washington, Edward's populist rant should concern business people everywhere. A former trial lawyer who made millions battling corporations, Edwards' crusade against corporate America could lead to far-reaching rules and regulations that would hurt our nation's competitiveness.

For all his populist talk, the angry Edwards seems to be the only candidate not talking about pulling this nation together. Instead, his vision of two Americas drives a wedge between people.

And someone should tell the former vice presidential candidate that no matter his rhetoric, the poor aren't getting poorer and the rich richer. Data released by the Internal Revenue Service shows that between 1996 and 2005, the bottom fifth of tax filers saw their incomes rise 91 percent, while the top one percent of filers saw a 26 percent decline in income.

With our economy sputtering and stability needed on world affairs, Edwards is not the answer.
