5 Questions With Callum Townsend

Published: January 11, 2008

Bloomingdale 6-foot-6 junior forward Callum Townsend holds the highest scoring average in Hillsborough County with 26.2 points per game. Townsend is also shooting 59 percent from the field and 47 percent from 3-point range (41 of 87) while averaging 7.8 rebounds. The lone returning starter and leading scorer from a district runner-up team in 2007, Townsend has emerged as one of the area's top players.

You've had to become more of a scorer this season (averaged 13.6 ppg last year). What's that transition been like for you?

I've taken on a lot more responsibility but I still have to try to incorporate everyone else. I shoot a lot but I still have to pass and do whatever we need to do to win. Whatever it takes.

You're a pretty good 3-point shooter, so describe the perfect shooting form.

The biggest thing is arch, I think. When I miss, it's always because I was flat. You have to have good rotation ... good fundamentals, keep it high.

Who do you think is the best 3-point shooter of all-time?

Larry Bird. Larry Bird, no doubt.

Have you ever lost a 3-point shooting contest?

Yeah, I've lost plenty of them. That's the only thing that's going to make me better is losing. Last year I did lose to Tampa Bay Tech's Dezmond Walker in a district 3-point shootout.

Your coach Josh Chapin is like 6-foot-8. If he practices with the team, who guards him?

I try to but he's a hard person to guard. He does a good job of using his body. It's a job to do.
