Favre Tells Newspaper He's Leaning Toward Returning

GREEN BAY, Wis. - If Brett Favre is leaning toward returning for another season with the Green Bay Packers, he hasn't discussed it yet with his coach.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy hardly seemed convinced comments from Favre - to his hometown newspaper on Thursday that he was leaning toward playing another season - amounted to an official decision.

"I'm trying not to laugh, but I have not been part of any conversation with Brett on that topic," McCarthy said. "And I think we need to just move on and focus on Seattle, because that's what we are focused on. I'm sure that's what he's focused on."

In a story posted on the Web site of the Biloxi (Miss.) Sun Herald on Thursday, Favre said he isn't approaching Saturday's playoff game against Seattle like it will be his final game in Green Bay. He seemed more optimistic than in years past about returning.

"For the first time in three years, I haven't thought this could be my last game," Favre told the newspaper. "I would like to continue longer."

HACKETT HURT AGAIN: Just as the Seahawks finally got all their receivers back and healthy, D.J. Hackett is hurt again.

Seattle's oft-injured starting receiver missed all but the stretching portion of practice Thursday, the team's final workout before leaving for Saturday's game against Green Bay. Hackett aggravated a sprained right ankle he's had for most of the season by practicing Wednesday.

"His ankle is a little bit sore. We rested it Thursday," Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren said. "That will be a game-time decision."

Hackett's problem comes one day after fellow starter Deion Branch returned for the first time since Dec. 26. The 2005 Super Bowl MVP, one of Seattle's most experienced playoff performers, practiced again Thursday and had precautionary ice on his strained right calf as he walked off the field after the workout.

T.O. BACK AT PRACTICE: Terrell Owens was running routes and catching passes in his return to practice Thursday, showing only a slight limp at times. The star receiver seems on track to play in the Dallas Cowboys' playoff game Sunday against the New York Giants.

Owens, recovering from a sprained left ankle, didn't go against any defenders during the short period of practice open to the media.

While he was taking full strides running routes and making some cuts without any apparent problems, Owens had a slight limp at times when he jogged or walked.

Seen in the perimeter around the locker room during lunch before practice, Owens appeared to be walking fine, though he said little.

"You're not getting anything out of me," Owens said.

Owens hurt his ankle Dec. 22 in the game at Carolina, and sat out the regular-season finale at Washington. The All-Pro receiver took part in the team's light walkthrough Monday, but didn't practice Wednesday while doing rehabilitation.

GIANTS CENTER RETURNS: New York C Shaun O'Hara returned to practice Thursday and took half the snaps with the offense.

O'Hara sprained a knee in the regular-season finale against the New England Patriots and missed the NFC wild-card game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. He is not sure whether he will play Sunday in Dallas.

TE Kevin Boss, who took over the starting job when Jeremy Shockey broke his leg last month, missed practice because of an illness.

"We're hoping it's 24 hours," Coach Tom Coughlin said.

CBs Sam Madison (stomach muscle) and Kevin Dockery (hip flexor) did not practice for the second straight day.
