BUSHNELL - Pasco County girls won seven of the 10 weight classes Thursday at the FHSAA Girls Weightlifting Qualifying Sectional at South Sumter High School.
River Ridge's Brianna Hooker and Gulf High's Carmen Figueroa headed up the list of Pasco County winners.
Hooker had a 145-pound bench press and a 130-pound clean and jerk to win the 110-pound class with a 275-pound total.
Figueroa, lifting despite some pain in her chest, lifted 160 pounds in the bench and 140 pounds in the clean and jerk for a 300-pound total. She won the 129-pound class.
The top three qualifiers in each class, based on the results of this and another qualifier at Belleview High, will advance to the state meet at River Ridge in February.
Wesley Chapel and River Ridge each had two class winners. For Wesley Chapel, Danielle Reardon won the 119-pound class and Kelly Daugherty won the unlimited class.
In addition to Hooker, River Ridge's Jessica Diaz won the 101-pound class.
Ridgewood's Lauren Heymann won the 139-pound class. Zephyrhills' Casey Rogers won the 169-pound class.
