KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Nicky Anosike scored a career-high 20 points, and second-ranked Tennessee physically dominated No. 22 Auburn in an 85-52 win Thursday night in a Southeastern Conference opener.
Anosike and Candace Parker achieved double-doubles. Parker scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and Anosike pulled in 12 for the Lady Vols (13-1). DeWanna Bonner, the SEC's second-leading scorer behind Parker, finished with 19 points for Auburn (12-4).
NORTH CAROLINA 79, VIRGINIA TECH 59: Erlana Larkins scored 22 points and Rashanda McCants had 20 as No. 3 North Carolina (15-1, 2-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) defeated host Virginia Tech (12-5, 0-3).
LaToya Pringle added 12 points for the Tar Heels. Larkins and Pringle also had 10 rebounds apiece, and McCants had eight rebounds and seven assists. Amber Hall and Brittany Cook led the Hokies with 13 points each.
MARYLAND 88, BOSTON COLLEGE 61: Crystal Langhorne had 18 points and 18 rebounds to break Len Elmore's school rebounding record, and No. 4 Maryland (19-1, 3-0 ACC) cruised to its ninth consecutive victory by beating host Boston College (13-4, 2-1).
Langhorne entered the game needing seven rebounds to break the school mark of 1,053 set by Elmore before he went on to a 10-year career in the ABA and NBA. She got the record-breaker on Ayla Brown's missed layup with 9:13 left in the first half and finished the game with 1,065 career boards.
GEORGIA 75, MISSISSIPPI 62: Megan Darrah led five Georgia players in double figures with 19 points, and the No. 10 Lady Bulldogs (14-1) defeated host Mississippi (6-8) in an SEC opener.
LSU 76, ARKANSAS 54: Sylvia Fowles scored 18 points to lead No. 11 LSU (12-3) past No. 20 Arkansas (15-1) in an SEC opener. Visiting LSU had a double-digit lead less than five minutes in, at 12-2, and Arkansas never got closer.
OHIO STATE 71, INDIANA 59: Jantel Lavender scored 23 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead No. 19 Ohio State (12-3, 3-1 Big Ten Conference) past visiting Indiana (9-7, 2-2). The Buckeyes have won three straight.
KENTUCKY 60, FLORIDA 58: Marshae Dotson's 26 points and 12 rebounds were not enough to lift Florida (11-5), whose seven-game winning streak ended with an SEC-opening loss at Kentucky (7-8).
Florida had two offensive possessions with under seven seconds remaining, but could not capitalize. The Gators shot only 13-for-20 from the free-throw line and had 24 turnovers.
Butler Men Extend Winning Streak To 7
INDIANAPOLIS - Matt Howard had 22 points and nine rebounds, and No. 14 Butler beat Wisconsin-Green Bay 74-65 for its seventh straight win.
Mike Green scored 18 points for the Bulldogs (15-1, 4-1 Horizon League), who tied the 2002-03 team for the best start in school history. Terry Evans led Green Bay (9-6, 3-2) with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
WISCONSIN 70, ILLINOIS 60: Trevon Hughes scored 22 points and Brian Butch added 16 as No. 21 Wisconsin (13-2, 3-0 Big Ten Conference) gave host Illinois (8-8, 0-3) its first four-game losing streak under Coach Bruce Weber..
Illinois managed to hang around for much of the game by grabbing 13 offensive rebounds while limiting Wisconsin to only four and shooting well from behind the 3-point line. But the Badgers were finally able to take charge midway through the second half.
STANFORD 66, OREGON STATE 46: Lawrence Hill had 13 points and Brook Lopez had 12 points and nine rebounds to lead No. 23 Stanford (13-2, 2-1 Pac-10 Conference) past host Oregon State (6-9, 0-3).
The Cardinal have beaten the Beavers in 16 of the last 17 meetings.
DRAKE: Guard Josh Young, the leading scorer in the Missouri Valley Conference, is out indefinitely with a sprained right ankle.
VIRGINIA: Guard Sammy Zeglinski will have a second operation on his right ankle and will miss the rest of the season.
