TAMPA - At a ceremony Saturday at Veterans Memorial Park on U.S. 301, 191 miniature U.S. flags were added to the Operation Field of Honor memorial.
Since 2005, the Veterans Council of Hillsborough County has held a ceremony every three months to place new flags to honor U.S. military members who died in Iraq and Afghanistan in the previous three months.
Saturday's addition brings the total to more than 3,800 flags and represents troops who died from September through December. The flags were placed by members of the council and nearly 20 audience members.
The new flags were bought by Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 787 in Tampa, said chapter secretary-treasurer Bob Silsmer, who is also 3rd vice president of the Veterans Council.
