TAMPA — Shares of WellCare Health Plans Inc. soared today on news that the company has signed contracts to continue to provide Medicare coordinated care plans in Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois and Louisiana.
Shares in the Tampa-based health insurer rose in afternoon trading today as much as $9.44, or 20 percent, to $56.43.
The company disclosed the contract renewals in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing late Friday after the market closed.
