Reference the article "Schools Closer To Pulling Up Sagging Pants" (Metro, Jan. 10):
I'm glad to see that our distinguished lawmakers have a set of priorities, even if they are not my priorities. As a former school teacher, I am curious as to the number of districts asking state Sen. Gary Siplin, D-Orlando, for assistance with the sagging pants issue. Is this a statewide crisis?
All schools I know of have a dress code to address these matters. The same teachers and administrators who fail to enforce their district dress codes will not enforce Siplin's or any other "pull 'em up laws." As with anything from our esteemed lawmakers, good intentions do not necessarily get good results. Teachers and administrators already have the means to contact most parents when they desire and all have plenty of other priorities to keep them busy.
