Electrical Problem Likely Caused Small Plant City Fire

PLANT CITY - Firefighters say an electrical problem may be to blame for a small fire today at a building at Collins Street and J. Arden Mays Boulevard.

Fire crews were called out because smoke was coming from under the eaves of the building. No one was injured, Fire Chief George Shiley said.

The building houses Century 21 Shaw Realty, 105 S. Collins St., and Snellgrove's Restaurant, 109 S. Collins St.

Shiley said he thinks an electrical problem inside the realty office started the fire and was the source of the smoke. Damage estimates for both buildings were not immediately available, Shiley said, but Snellgrove's will be closed until the county's department of health completes an inspection this afternoon, he said.

A portion of Collins Street was closed for a time. Firefighters reported by 1:40 p.m. that the situation was under control.
