CLEARWATER - CLEARWATER - In gambling, the old adage is, the house always wins.
Not this time, police say.
Early Wednesday, police say they shut down an illegal gambling house with two poker tables, dozens of cards, thousands of poker chips and $20,000 to $30,000 in cash at 2095 Drew St., Suite A. They served a search warrant at 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
Police arrested four people and sent a notice to appear in court to about a dozen others.
Sascha Kauper, 33, of 2395 Grove Lake Circle, Palm Harbor, was charged with two counts of keeping a gambling house. He was released from Pinellas County Jail on $10,000 bond.
Robert Nicola Gill, 26, of 518 Channel Drive, Tampa, was charged with two counts of being an employee of a gambling house. He was released on $10,000 bond.
Chastity Ann Baur, 30, of 8915 N. River Road, Tampa, was charged with being an employee of a gambling house. She was released on $5,000 bond.
Melinda Stanovcak, 30, of 6513 Surfside Blvd., Apollo Beach, was charged with possession of Xanax, possession of cocaine and gambling. She was released on $4,250 bond.
