NORTH PORT - North Port police arrested Adam Lucas, 24, on Tuesday after he ran from police and choked a police dog, authorities said.

According to police records, Lucas, of the 200 block of Grove Street in Venice, ran a stop sign while pulling onto Biscayne Drive and a chase ensued.
Lucas led police down Evinrude Avenue, where he smashed his car into a street sign before running into the woods.
Police dog Sniper reportedly found Lucas in the woods and bit him on the arm, at which point Lucas tried to choke the dog. Lucas fought with officers as they arrested him, police said.
Lucas was treated for dog bites at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte before being taken to Sarasota County Jail.
He was charged with battery of a police officer, resisting arrest with violence, attempting to kill or injure a police dog and fleeing to elude police and driving without a license.
Lucas was later released on $8,000 bail.
