TAMPA - A 19-year-old Tampa man bit a police officer's hand and made racial slurs, according to the Temple Terrace Police Department.
Police arrested Anthony James Staten about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at 9385 N. 56th St. in Temple Terrace.
Officers say he and three other people went to two Bank of America locations and tried to use checks from a closed GTE Federal Credit Union account. The checks, which had forged signatures, were in the amounts of $380 and $350.
Also arrested were Dontrell N. McFadden, 20, of Tampa, Dmetrics Dsean Harris, 19, of Valrico and Camera Elice Goins, 19, of Tampa.
The four people didn't have authority or permission to have or use the checks, a criminal arrest affidavit states.
When officers searched Staten, they found 3 grams of marijuana, according to the affidavit. Staten bit the officer's hand and used racial slurs.
Staten, of 7801 River Resort Lane, Apt. A, was charged with aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, marijuana possession and two counts each of grand theft, scheming to defraud, deposit fraud and uttering a forged check.
McFadden, Harris and Goins were charged with two counts each of grand theft, scheming to defraud, deposit fraud and uttering a forged check.
All four remained in Orient Road Jail this morning.
Staten's bail was set at $31,500; the others each had bail set at $16,000.
