Airport Sets Record
Tampa International Airport set a record with 9.58 million passenger departures in 2007, up 1.5 percent compared with 2006, despite a year-end decline airport officials attributed to an economic downturn. Southwest Airlines remained the airport's leading carrier with 27.8 percent market share, followed by Delta Air Lines, US Airways, Continental Airlines and American Airlines. The number of departing passengers declined 4.2 percent in December to 771,544 compared with a year ago.

Syniverse Stock Soars
Stock in Syniverse Holdings rose $2.18, or 16 percent, Wednesday to $15.75 as the provider of technology for cellular service companies forecast higher sales than analysts expected. were as high as $371million last year, with a sales range this year projected to be $425 million to $440 million, the Tampa company said Tuesday.

AT&T Reports Fires
AT&T is replacing backup batteries in 17,000 street-side cabinets after four of them exploded or burst into flames, the company said. The batteries provide backup power for U-verse, the TV service AT&T is rolling out in its 22-state local-service territory.
The first cabinet exploded in Houston in 2006, said telecom trade Web site Light Reading, which reported the replacement program this week. Another cabinet caught fire in Houston, and two others in Cleveland and Wauwatosa, Wis. No one was hurt.
Skyway Cuts 380 Jobs
Midwest Airlines will cut 380 jobs from its subsidiary Skyway Airlines as it outsources all regional flights. SkyWest Airlines takes over all regional operations in March and April, Oak Creek, Wis.-based Midwest said Wednesday.
PC Shipments Maintain Rise
The fourth quarter's increase in computer shipments was roughly in line with the third quarter, when shipments rose at the fastest rate in nearly two years, Framingham, Mass.-based research firm IDC reported Wednesday.
Shipments in October through December rose 15.5 percent, to 77.4 million units, up from 67 million a year earlier.
