TAMPA - A pick up truck slammed into a house, hurling a television at the 97-year-old owner at 1209 Holmes Ave. and causing a gas leak just before 10 p.m. on Thursday, Fire Rescue Capt. Bill Wade said.
A few nearby houses were evacuated as the gas flow was shut off. People were able to return to their homes.
No one was injured in the accident.
The driver, Martin Leonel Ruiz Licona, 35, of 1212 Holmes Ave., was parking the truck when he lost control and struck the house, Tampa police and fire investigators said.
He was arrested and charged with driving an unregistered motor vehicle, and not having a valid driver's license.
George Garcia, 97, the owner of the house, was in bed watching TV when the pickup truck hit the bedroom wall. The TV crashed into Garcia and he fell to the floor.
The damage is estimated at $20,000.
