TAMPA - Police officers who served a warrant on a woman who failed to return a rented car say they also charged her with child neglect after they found two children wandering about at her trash-filled, bug-infested home.
Taiasha Femi Jenkins, 30, of 917 W. Union St., was still in Orient Road Jail this afternoon. Bail was set at $6,000.
Tampa police say officers arrived at her home at 11 p.m. Thursday to serve a warrant when they discovered the squalor inside and one child wandering the yard unsupervised.
According to an arrest affidavit, police determined that Jenkins, who was inside the home naked, was not providing adequate food, shelter and supervision for the children. One was 7, but the age of the other was not available.
Police said the home "was extremely dirty, trash thrown throughout, food was spoiled, the home was infested with roaches and over the counter medicines were lying within the children's reach."
The 7-year-old, police say, was playing outside without supervision while Jenkins was inside.
