Weather Wreaks Havoc On Plans

GO FISHING is a daily look at the area fishing scene through the eyes of local charter boat captains and fishing guides. Today: Billy Nobles, left, with "Reel Animals" partner Mike Anderson.

Well it's the time of year that, as an inshore guide, just when you've got your game plan together, a front comes along and changes everything.
Captain Mike and I were scheduled to go out Monday with captain Larry McQuire to shoot an episode of the "Reel Animals Fishing Show," but the winds started to blow, so we canceled on Friday.

That same day, good friend captain Greg DeVault called and said he was hauling in big trout and redfish in Pasco County, so we changed gears and planned to go with him. On Sunday, captain Greg called and said the fish had left when the water warmed up, so we canceled the shoot.

On Monday night we had a cold front come through, and captain Mike and I had a group to fish on Tuesday. I called our client and told him it was going to be tough and cold, but I thought we could make something out of it. Well, he had guys coming in from Utah, and Washington, D.C., so we had to go. The first place we went, there were snook and trout all over the place, and I think the only fish caught there was by captain Mike's guys with a puffer fish. The next spot produced nothing.

Then we went poking around and found a ton of bonnethead sharks and ladyfish. We chopped up some shrimp for chum and went to work. We called captain Mike, and he headed over as well. Before Mike arrived, they stopped on one of our favorite docks and the first cast brought in a speckled trout, then a catfish, then nothing. At our next stop, our first cast was a nice trout as well. I thought, "OK this is it. We are going to wear them out." But that was the only one we caught.

Catch captains Billy Nobles and Mike Anderson on the "Reel Animals Fishing Show" on Saturdays from 6:30-7 a.m. on WFLA, Channel 8, and on Sundays from 8-10 a.m. on WHBO, 1470 AM. To book a charter, call 1-866-GAMEFISH or visit www.reelanimalsfishingshow.c
