TAMPA - Upset they're not getting their raises and their contract talks are at a standstill, about 125 firefighters, their friends and their families picketed Friday outside City Hall.
They held signs directed at Mayor Pam Iorio, telling her the city's firefighters deserve better.
Disputes between the firefighters union and city administration have been going on for months. In November, the union filed an unfair labor practice claim against the city because it hadn't issued step pay increases during negotiations.
The claim was filed with the Florida Public Employees Relations Commission. A teleconference hearing was held Friday afternoon; no ruling is expected for at least two months.
The firefighters and city administrators also have declared an impasse in negotiations and plan to turn to a special magistrate to settle the dispute, which is primarily over pay.
No hearing date has been set.
The firefighters' contract expired Sept. 30.
