TAMPA - An unattended pot on the stove is blamed for a house fire that caused heavy damage today, authorities said.
No one was hurt.
The 11 a.m. blaze at 4303 North 36th Street in East Tampa was brought under control in 15 minutes.
An investigator determined that the occupant, identified as Gloria Watts, 53, had placed grease on the stovetop to heat up. As she tended to other things in the house, the kitchen caught fire and she fled safely.
The house sustained heavy damage, with losses estimated at least $120,000.
The house is owned by the Praise Outreach Bible Study Church, located next door. Watts is a church member. The pastor, Gloria Johnson, and several members were at the scene to help Watts, as was the American Red Cross.
