Thinking' out loud until it started to hurt...

Not to say the New England Patriots are feeling confident about their chances against banged-up San Diego in today's AFC Championship Game, but Coach Bill Belichick was sighted at a Goodwill bin shopping for a new wardrobe for Super Bowl week.

In other Patriots news, the Florida woman charging Patriots receiver Randy Moss with battery says he offered hush money to cover up "degrading" conduct that caused her "serious injury." Moss' attorney says it was "consensual horseplay" that resulted in a finger injury. Moss is confident he will be vindicated when the Patriots' film crew releases the videotape.

Those pictures taken of Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo and gal pal Jessica Simpson in Mexico that caused such a stir in Dallas might be traceable to the actress' father. Seems Dad, who serves as the actress' manager, has a deal with photographers to get a percentage of the dough they're paid for such shots. Dallas owner Jerry Jones is furious, demanding to know why Cowboys staffers didn't think of that.

Mathew Kowald, 36, of Pardeeville, Wis., is in trouble after putting a Packers jersey on his 7-year-old son and wrapping him in tape when the boy did not want to cheer for Green Bay in its playoff game against Seattle. Help me out here. Do you think that makes this guy a bigger idiot than the Patriots fan who tattooed his head to look like Tom Brady's helmet?

West Virginia officials are investigating the disappearance of football program records, suggesting that before leaving for Michigan, former coach Rich Rodriguez may have taken files containing players' personal contact information, scholarship payments and class attendance records, as well as strength and conditioning reports that tracked physical progress. Mountaineers fans are so angry they want Golfweek to put Rodriguez on its cover.

Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James was ticketed by the Ohio State Highway Patrol for driving 101 mph in a 65-mph zone on Interstate 71. James insists it is no big deal: He had a foul to give.

The NCAA has promised to study a proposed eight-team college football playoff along with other potential options. And this year Santa Claus is finally going to bring me that new boat I've been asking for.

Bud Selig accepted a three-year contract extension and will continue as MLB commissioner through 2012. Congress immediately demanded he be tested for drugs.

The New York Knicks, last in the NBA's Atlantic Division, have been running television ads featuring fans proclaiming their heartfelt devotion to the team. The only trouble is, the so-called fans turned out to be paid actors. You know, sort of like the Knicks.

Women's Professional Soccer unveiled a logo featuring a silhouette of Mia Hamm, a salute to the star similar to the way Jerry West's distinctive form is used by the NBA. It's a deserving honor for Hamm, but if league officials really wanted to attract attention, don't you think they would have gone with Brandi Chastain?

The idea of a New England-Green Bay and Tom Brady-Brett Favre Super Bowl has NFL and television executives on the edge of hyperventilation. They believe the attraction would be so great, even Roger Clemens would sit down and shut up for a complete evening.

Some pretty nasty campaign talk recently in South Carolina. But state residents never get tired of Steve Spurrier and Tommy Bowden recruiting stories.

Golfer John Daly is considering filing a lawsuit against the insurance company that represents the Palm Beach Gardens-based Honda Classic because of an injury he suffered last year when a fan snapped a picture during his downswing. Smile and say, "A guy needs beer money."
