CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Bambale Osby scored inside with 21 seconds left to help Maryland stun top-ranked North Carolina 82-80 on Saturday, the Tar Heels' first loss of the season.
James Gist had 22 points and 13 rebounds for the Terrapins (12-7, 2-2 Atlantic Coast Conference), who blew an 11-point lead midway through the second half but still held on in a back-and-forth finish to win here for the first time since 2003.
Tyler Hansbrough had 17 points and 14 rebounds for the Tar Heels (18-1, 3-1), who had several chances in the final seconds to answer Osby's basket. But after Wayne Ellington missed a 3-pointer and a driving shot, North Carolina could only watch as Hansbrough's last gasp 3-pointer bounced off the rim as the horn sounded.
North Carolina was shooting 46 percent on the season, but managed 38 percent from the field and was 7-for-23 from 3-point range on Saturday. Hansbrough, who was 6-for-15 from the field, went up among three defenders to tie it at 80 with 51 seconds left.

One week after the Bearcats (9-9, 4-2 Big East) beat Villanova on a last-minute shot, they held on for another eye-opening win.
No. 15 Pittsburgh (15-3, 3-2) fell way behind after another injury further sapped its lineup. Forward Keith Benjamin jammed and cut his right hand late in the first half, and had trouble shooting when he returned wearing a wrap.
The Panthers were already down two starters to injury.

After Anthony King made one of two free throws to give the Hurricanes a 77-75 lead with 15.3 seconds remaining in the extra session, Grant drove the basket on the other end to try to tie it. His layup in traffic bounced off the rim, but J.J. Hickson was there for the tip-in.
Just as the home crowd was celebrating the possibility of heading to a second OT, Grant jumped in front of King's pass and immediately put the ball in the basket. Jack McClinton's desperation heave from half-court bounced harmlessly off the backboard.
