TAMPA - The chilly conditions, Saturday's Children's Gasparilla Parade washout and NFL playoff games caused a sparse turnout for Sunday's "Piratechnic" Extravaganza on Bayshore Boulevard.
Police reopened Bayshore shortly after the end of the fireworks.
Families were bundled up as the wind whipped in from the Bay. A man selling glow sticks was not having much luck as the fireworks came to an end. Joggers took their usual run on Bayshore, ignoring the fireworks and the people.
Police did not have a crowd estimate; it did not appear to be more than a couple hundred people.
Fireworks were launched from a barge anchored off Bayshore near Howard Avenue.
The parade and the fireworks were washouts on Saturday because of the threat of severe weather, including tornadoes.
