ST. PETERSBURG - A sport utility vehicle slid off an access road near the north fishing pier by the Sunshine Skyway on Sunday morning, killing the 29-year-old man driving and injuring his 6-year-old passenger, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The identities of the man and child have not been released, pending notification of family, a patrol report states.
About 10:40 a.m., a 1997 Oldsmobile Bravada was traveling south along a paved roadway that parallels State Road 93, the report states. The tan vehicle slid off the road, overturned and landed on its side along the Tampa Bay shoreline.
Investigators haven't said what might have caused the wreck.
The driver, who wasn't wearing a seat belt, was ejected and died at the scene, the report states. The passenger was not ejected and was taken with minor injuries to All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg.
