TAMPA — A Tampa man who bought a stolen Smith & Wesson handgun kept it unsecured and loaded in his 2005 Dodge Ram pickup and let his children use the vehicle, Tampa police say.
Police arrested Alexander Grant Young, 44, about 1:30 a.m. today.
Young told officers he paid juveniles $50 for the 9 mm gun about six months ago, a criminal arrest affidavit states. The gun was reported stolen in Polk County in 2001.
Young's attorney, Dana Friedlander, said she wasn't familiar with details of the case but asserted that her client isn't guilty. She said Young wouldn't comment on his arrest.
He was charged with dealing in stolen property, grand theft of a firearm and allowing minors access to a loaded firearm.
Young, of 1604 E. 29th Ave., is a city of Tampa wastewater employee, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Web site.
His bail was set at $9,750. He has been released from jail.
