RIVERVIEW — A reward made up of donations has been established at a local bank for information leading to the arrest and successful prosecution of whoever shot and killed a quarter horse last week.
Rocky lived at Little Creek Ranch and was shot once in the head as he grazed along the fence off Simmons Loop Road on Thursday.
Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies are investigating. The horse's owner, Irene Griffith, said donations have come in from a local veterinarian and the Florida Voices of Animals. As of Tuesday afternoon, she said there was more than $1,600 in the fund.
Donations are being accepted at the Wachovia Bank, 13140 U.S. 301 S., SL5956, Riverview FL 33579. Checks should be made out to "Rocky's Reward Fund," Griffith said.
In a news release this week, officials with the Florida Voices of Animals said it was pitching in a $500 reward with the hope it will lead to information that would lead to an arrest and conviction.
"The report of a quarter horse named Rocky being shot and killed for no reason while he was out in the pasture was particularly disturbing," the release stated.
