Nearly nine months after three robbers burst into the popular Boyett's Grove shop in Brooksville and shot a co-owner, one suspect has been caught, Hernando County deputies said.
Elijah Jermaine Montgomery
Authorities identified Elijah Jermaine Montgomery, a k a "Money," as the robber who shot Jim Oleson Sr. on April 25 at the Spring Lake Highway attraction. He is in an Orange County Jail on unrelated charges, deputies said.
His two accomplices, who wore Halloween masks during the robbery, are still on the run, deputies said.
The robbers grabbed Oleson's wife and co-owner, Kathy, by the hair and dragged her at gunpoint through the store, threatening to kill her unless she gave them money. Montgomery destroyed all the phones in the store and then shot Jim Oleson once in the chest, deputies said.
Oleson, 59, spent months in a hospital recovering from the gunshot wound. He returned to the store in October in time for citrus season, although he still tires easily.
Officers in Orlando caught Montgomery in June after they saw him pointing a gun at a woman, they said. Montgomery dropped the gun and his driver's license during the chase, police said. An analysis of the gun showed it matched the fired shell recovered at the Boyett's Grove shooting scene seven weeks earlier.
In December, Kathy and James Oleson positively identified Montgomery in a lineup as the gunman.
Detectives are asking for anyone who might have information about Montgomery, especially his ties to Hernando County, the car he traveled in or his two unidentified accomplices, to call the Hernando sheriff's office at (352) 754-6830. Anonymous tipsters may call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-990-8477.
