WAUCHULA — Vandals spray painted the outside of the Hardee Junior High School and broke in through windows and doors to spray paint and create a mess inside the school, Superintendent Dennis Jones told News Channel 8.
A janitor discovered the vandalism early Wednesday morning at the school in Wauchula.
The students are not being allowed into the classrooms as sheriff's department investigators collected evidence and dusted for fingerprints.
Jones activated the emergency notification system to alert parents of students at both Hardee Junior High and the adjoining Hilltop Elementary School that everything was O.K. but, many parents came to the school to take their kids home. School is still in session; classes are just not being held right now.
Major Claude Harris, with the Hardee County Sheriff's Office, told Highlands Today the damage was extensive. There are no suspects right now and authorities are looking at video surveillance, he added.
