TAMPA – April Singletary started her day Tuesday getting some groceries and cleaning house. It ended a bit more dramatically -- with the sudden delivery of her daughter at home.

The 24-year-old Ruskin mother of two boys realized her newest baby's due date had arrived but didn't know she had gone into labor until it was too late.

She's grateful that her fiancé, Jason Young, was home and able to call 911. A Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office dispatcher walked the nervous father-to-be through the process.

The makeshift baby delivery team brought 7 pound, 7 ounce Aaliyah Young safely into the world about 3 p.m.

"If it weren't for [the dispatcher], I don't think we would have made it," she said as she held her daughter this morning at Tampa General Hospital.

Singletary said she didn't recognize her labor pains Tuesday because her two previous deliveries had been difficult and premature. In fact, she thought the baby was having problems when the powerful labor pains Tuesday, forced her to climb into bed.

Singletary said she didn't relax until Aaliyah cried as her father was coached through clearing out her tiny mouth.

Paramedics arrived after the delivery to find both of the shocked parents sitting on the bed. Singletary said her fiancé was shaking after the ordeal.

"The paramedics had to help him off the bed, he was so scared," she said with a laugh.

Mother, daughter and father all were doing fine today. Young even headed to work after spending the night at the hospital with his fiancé and daughter.

Singletary said the ordeal has taught her something. No more children.

"I've had three crazy births," she said. "I don't want to deal with any more."
