Tampa Police Identify Man Shot To Death Monday

TAMPA - TAMPA - A man fatally shot in the chest Monday night near East Busch Boulevard has been identified as 29-year-old Robert Victor Thompson, Tampa police say.

When the shooting occurred 9 p.m. Monday, Thompson was at the Azzarelli Apartments visiting a friend who was having trouble with her ex-boyfriend, a police report states.

The woman and the ex-boyfriend were involved in an argument, and the ex-boyfriend fled on foot.
Thompson pursued the man on foot, and moments later, gunshots were heard, the report said.

Thompson returned to the property at 5034 E. Temple Heights Road, where he died of a gunshot wound to the chest.

Thompson had no known home address, police say.

No suspects have been named or arrested.

"They're looking at a few different possibilities," Tampa police spokesman Jared Douds said. "They haven't officially said this is definitely somebody we're looking at here. But they are definitely looking at a suspect or suspects."
