LUTZ - After five years of planning and 12 years of renting, Berean Academy has moved into its own home.
Students at the private Christian school returned from winter vacation Jan. 11 to a new building off U.S. 41 in Lutz, near Lake Stemper. The 47,000-square-foot school offers a library, a gymnasium, computer and science labs, a music room and an art room.
The $12 million building also has enough space to add more students in the future. Berean has 180 students in kindergarten through 12th grade, and the new facility could accommodate up to 400.
Berean had been leasing space from University Church of God near Interstate 275.
Casey Crane, who is in 11th grade, said that though the church had served as a great host to Berean, heading to class in a new building had a special feel.
"It was like coming home," he said.
