A 45-year-old man escaped serious injury this afternoon after the crane he was operating at a St. Petersburg construction site toppled over.
George Huffman, an operator with Kelley Crane Equipment Co., was found awake and alert by emergency responders shortly after his crane tipped over about 1:45 p.m. today, said St. Petersburg police Lt. Rick Feinberg.
Huffman, who was ejected from the crane, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Bayfront Medical Center, Feinberg said.
The cause of the accident in the area of 100th Avenue North and 16th Street is still under investigation, Feinberg said. Huffman and other crane operators were moving pipe for electrical power service, Feinberg said.
