LAND O' LAKES - Three people were transported to Tampa hospitals Thursday after a six-vehicle wreck at State Road 54 and Foggy Ridge Parkway, Pasco Fire Rescue said.
Two people were taken by ambulance to St. Joseph's Hospital and another was taken to University Community Hospital, records show. The crash involving five pickups and a car happened at 3:54 p.m. The victims' names were not immediately available.
The wreckage blocked the eastbound lanes of S.R. 54 and traffic was rerouted down Foggy Ridge. Some motorists cut through a nearby shopping center to get back onto S.R. 54, while others drove to County Line Road.
Westbound lanes were open, but traffic was backed up as far as the eye could see as motorists slowed to look at the damage.
Traffic also was slowed on Collier Parkway and Livingston Avenue west of the wreck.
Local radio stations reported that traffic was backed up as far as Interstate 75 to the east, where motorists were trying to merge onto State Road 56.
