A Major Candidate
Regarding "Learn Where Each Candidate Stands Before Casting Your Vote," My View, Luis Lopez, Jan. 20:
I am constantly amazed that Democratic Party member Luis Lopez is allowed so much space in The Pasco Tribune to espouse his views.
Though I feel it is enormously important to have an educated electorate, Lopez's narrowing down of the major Republican candidates for president to Mitt Romney, John McCain and Mike Huckabee leaves voters to believe that Rudy Giuliani is not a contender.
Just a few short weeks ago, Giuliani was ahead nationally in the polls, and that should prove the race for the presidency is extremely fluid. As of today in Florida, according to polls, Mayor Giuliani is in the top three.
Since Florida has a closed party primary, where only party members can vote and independents will not be able to participate, Florida will be a much different race than the previous races, and Giuliani is far from out.
Therefore, it is only fitting that The Pasco Tribune allow some space for Giuliani's stand on issues as well:
Immigration: Giuliani proposes all new immigrants speak English and learn what it means to be Americans. He sees the first priority as a strong border security and opposes any amnesty program.
Health care: Giuliani believes the free market can reduce the costs and improve competition in the health care industry. This will be accomplished through various tax cuts, expanding the health savings accounts and reforming the medical liability legal system, just to name a few.
Iraq war: Giuliani will not set an artificial timetable for withdrawing our troops. He believes winning in Iraq is essential for our national security, and he wants al-Qaida defeated. On this he will not waver.
Furthermore, Giuliani is committed to fighting for a national catastrophe insurance fund to reduce insurance rates - an idea important to Floridians and any resident of a coastal state threatened by the destruction of hurricanes and increasing costs of insurance.
Lopez should not have left Mayor Giuliani out of his discussion. Mayor Giuliani is a major proponent in this race for the president that has Florida at the helm of the national decision, and certainly the residents of Pasco need to know where he stands.

Don't Forget Us
Regarding "Festivals Are Wasting Away In Zephyrhills," Monday:
I'm happy to say that not all of them are! The eighth annual Zephyrhills Celtic Festival and Highland Games will take place March 1 and 2 in Zephyr Park.
This year will feature more entertainment and other activities than ever before. The festival has grown each year since our first and brings thousands of visitors from outside Zephyrhills to our city.
We are excited to once again welcome Fox 13's "Good Day Tampa Bay" morning show on Feb 29. They will be featuring several live segments showcasing our festival and beautiful venue.
Although the chamber of commerce and Main Street are not involved with this event, we have always had the support of the city of Zephyrhills and valued support and sponsorship from the Tribune, Zephyrhills Water and K&M Travel.
This event will feature internationally known entertainers as well as food and craft vendors from around the country. Our festival is proud to call Zephyrhills home.
Visit our Web site, www.
zephyrhillscelticfestival.com. Click on our guest book, and you'll see we have people from all over who are happy to come here as well!

Specialists Needed
Regarding Carl Orth's story, "Pasco To Lure Doctors To Aid Medically Needy," Tuesday:
Dr. David Johnson's focused efforts to seek specialty care for the county's uninsured residents appear to be bearing fruit. With the coming Primary Care center opening in Hudson, networking for specialty care and hospital services are critical for equitable treatment for our county's less fortunate residents.
Dr. Johnson is to be congratulated for his progress. Specialists are needed and should call his office at the Pasco County Health Department for more information.

Sign From Above
In memory of our hero, Dr. Martin Luther King, and just after his legacy was celebrated and honored as a federal holiday, we now realize that the decision by the Zephyrhills City Council to rescind the renaming of Sixth Avenue to MLK Avenue has become a blessing in disguise.
Not only was this particular stretch of road not worthy of his name, but on the very street and in close proximity to the council chambers that tried to stop the dream, the streets flooded!
The battle is not ours but the Lord's. His wondrous works speak volumes.
